Are Free Spins Worth It? The Real Value of 20, 60 and 100 Spins (With the Math)

Bonus basicsPublished July 9, 2026·3 min read·Re-checked today

"100 free spins" is twenty dollars of play with a lottery ticket attached. That can still be worth it — here is how to judge when.

Free spins are the easiest bonus to understand and the easiest to misjudge in both directions. Some players dismiss them as worthless; others treat 100 spins as if it were CA$100. The truth is in the middle and it is calculable.

Step 1: Play value

Spins × bet per spin. 100 spins at CA$0.20 = CA$20 of play. 60 spins at CA$0.20 (Rainbet's BOOST20 bundle) = CA$12. That is the ceiling on the average outcome; the slot's RTP takes a cut.

Step 2: Expected winnings

Play value × RTP. At 96.5%: CA$20 × 0.965 = CA$19.30. These winnings are credited as bonus funds.

Step 3: Wagering on winnings

Most spin offers apply 30x–40x to the winnings. CA$19.30 × 30 = CA$579 of play to convert. Expected cost at 3.5% edge: CA$20. So after clearing, the average cash value is roughly zero. That is the sobering part.

Step 4: The tail

The reason spins are not worthless is that the distribution is skewed. On a Pragmatic Play slot like Lucky Tiger 1000 the probability of a 50×+ hit on any one spin is around 0.4%; across 100 spins the chance of at least one is ~33%. A 100× hit at CA$0.20 is CA$20 — now the batch has CA$39 of winnings and clearing 30x is realistically achievable with a positive balance. A 500× hit (CA$100) makes the offer clearly profitable in expectation even after wagering. These outcomes are uncommon but not rare, and they cost you nothing to be exposed to.

Step 5: Max cashout

Many spin offers cap conversions (Coins.Game: CA$300). It trims the far tail — a 2,000× hit cannot pay CA$400 — but leaves the realistic range intact.

Putting it together: value by offer size

Offer Play value Expected after clearing Chance of 50×+ hit Realistic range
20 spins CA$4 ~CA$0 8% CA$0 – 30
60 spins (Rainbet, with match) CA$12 ~CA$0 21% CA$0 – 100
100 spins (Coins.Game) CA$20 ~CA$0 33% CA$0 – 300 (cap)

The bonus value calculator has a free-spins tab that runs these numbers for any offer.

When spins beat a match

  • You want to keep your deposit free. Coins.Game's MAXBONUS leaves the deposit as real, withdrawable balance — only the spin winnings are encumbered.
  • You are trying a site. CA$20 of play on a named slot tells you how the lobby, cashier and support feel without a wagering commitment.
  • You like the slot. Lucky Tiger 1000 and Arrow Slot are decent medium-high volatility titles; if you would play them anyway, the spins are pure upside.

When a match is better

If you are depositing to play slots seriously, a 100%–200% match provides far more volume and a much larger upside than any spin batch. The best of both is the Rainbet bundle — match, spins and a rakeback boost in one code.

A note on "no deposit" free spins

Genuine no-deposit spins at crypto casinos are tiny (daily wheels, loyalty spins) and often carry heavy caps. Treat them as a free lottery ticket, nothing more. Our no deposit bonus guide covers what exists.
