The wheel and the edge

This is a European wheel: 37 pockets, numbers 0–36, one green zero. Every bet pays as if there were 36 pockets — red/black at 1:1, dozens at 2:1, straight-up at 35:1 — so the zero gives the house its edge: 1/37 = 2.70% on every bet type. An American wheel adds a 00 pocket and doubles the edge to 5.26%; always choose European or French tables when they are offered.
